IAS Tips GS
Preparing for GS for UPSC civil services is one of the toughest things that one has to face during the preparation. It is important in every stage and yet it got messed up by lots of candidates due to various reasons mainly due to the vastness of syllabus.
Preparation should be started just one year before the prelims. First of all, one should give much more time towards thorough reading of newspapers and magazines. I would suggest one to give at least three hours dailly on this till December. Then it must be susided. The Hindu, The Times Of India, Frontline, Seminar(a monthly journal) are highly recommended.
For history it is always prudent to read only standard books. Much more attention should be given to the Modern India section since it has major share in Prelims and Mains. Bipan Chandra for Modern India and NCERTs for ancient and medieval is recommended.
Geography has its own importance and particularly it got more strength in Prelims. However, NCERTs coupled with INDIA YearBook and TMH guide is more than sufficient.
For Indian Economy and Polity one should thoroghly go through NCERT of Indian Economy, the business page of The Hindu- published on Monday, Subhash Kashyap-Parliament and Constitution both, and notes from News Papers nad Magazines.
R S Aggarwal is more than sufficient for GMA.
One should also keep practise of writing as much as possible.
Good Luck
